The hackers added support for VR Daydream 5X Nexus and other smartphones on the Android 7.0 – http://json.tv/ (press release) (Registration)

One of the new features in Android 7.1 is a Daydream – a new virtual reality platform, which is available to users at the moment from the company Google. It allows you to watch a video review of 360 degrees, playing games and apps in a virtual world and actually sit in a virtual theater with your phone and a compatible headset, such as a Daydream View for $ 79 .

But while there were only a few phones that officially support this feature: Pixel and Pixel XL from Google, and Motorola also offered Moto Z. All of these phones are powerful, new and expensive.

But if you have a Google Nexus 5X of era 2015, you can add it to this list thanks to hackers.

Nexus 5X runs on Android 7.0. A Reddit user CharaNalaar noted that you can install the Google VR apps Daydream, and then change the line in the file handheld_core_hardware.xml and reboot the device. This may work on other devices running Android 7.0 or later and at least one person says that the trick also works with the smartphone LG V20.

you will then be able to download apps from the Play Store and interact with a new virtual reality platform from Google.

Why is Google itself not in a hurry to bring support Daydream for Nexus phone or Nexus 5X 6P, which the company released last year? All about screen resolution. CharaNalaar says there is a backlog in the picture. Display with a resolution at 1080p looks in the headset, which divides the screen in half, much worse than the QHD screens are the new flagships. Full HD virtual reality is just prohibited.
