Google Nexus removed from 6 fingerprint sensor at the last moment – Ferra

One of the first rumors about the Nexus 6 appeared in July and reported that the flagship of Google and Motorola codenamed Shamu receive a 5.9-inch display, an operating system Android L, fingerprint sensor and will be released to the market in November. All went well, but one only nuance: a Nexus 6 is no fingerprint sensor. Now, however, the network has become available of the source code Android, glancing which it becomes clear that Google and Motorola really planned to equip the Nexus 6 fingerprint sensor, but at the last moment refused this ideas.

Not only , Google is ready (and continues to prepare) the official API for Android. Decision to reject such a sensor was made at the end of August. At that time it was already known that the supply of sensors for Nexus 6 will carry the company Validity Sensors, acquired a year ago, supplier touchscreen controllers Synaptics. It is assumed that the first prototype Nexus 6 did have a fingerprint sensor, but in subsequent versions for uncertain reasons, has been removed, and as a provider of touchscreen Motorola chose Atmel (according to iFixit).

All this gives reason to believe that the next generation of Nexus smartphones are already sure to be equipped with a fingerprint sensor: Google has plenty of time to finalize the API, and her partner – to select a reliable supplier of hardware parts.
