With the iPhone 6 Plus Apple targeted the sector with large screens and Phablet first and Nexus 6 has grown in both size and price, to match the first one. Google has also stopped playing. Nexus 6 can be purchased from most major mobile operators, as well as the phone itself is a rival for other phone manufacturers Android, and inspiration.
So Whose debut Phablet is in the first place? I will share my thoughts, as I had popolzovavshis both for some time.
Design – roundness matter
As the saying goes, there are many ways to achieve their , and Apple with Google to use a completely different approach to creating their Phablet.
iPhone 6 Plus is ahead in terms of attractiveness, thanks to the aluminum frame and beautifully beveled buttons and edges. He’s also incredibly thin form, to which Nexus 6 is still far.
But the problem Apple is that they have not created Phablet and iPhone 6 huge size. The flat rear panel is not amenable to such a huge size, which is why it is difficult to embrace, and elegant finish around the edges looks ridiculous on such a large device. Because of this iPhone 6 Plus is quite uncomfortable to hold and you will need to cover in order to feel at least some confidence. And this is a problem for a device that is already huge.
Advantages and disadvantages of Nexus 6 is quite the opposite. Developed by Motorola this year, Nexus 6 is also essentially a larger version of a more compact phone: Excellent Moto X (2014). The difference is that Moto X (5.2 inches) is also a major phone and Motorola because greater focus on ergonomics than Apple with its 4.7-inch iPhone 6.
The back of the Nexus 6, strongly curved, that has a great phone in his hand, and despite the fact that it is thicker iPhone 6 Plus, bevelled edges are more convenient, and thanks to a thin faces 6-inch display is actually placed in the body of the same size.
Plastic housing several disappointing, in particular by the fact that it does not have a comfortable soft-touch finish, as Moto X, but its texture is much better than the iPhone 6 Plus. For such a large phone, this aspect is crucial.
In the end, I decided that I prefer to design Nexus 6. Both phones have something better, but Apple just did not think about how to hold and use Phablet . Make iPhone 6 larger – not solve the problem.
Displays: the more the better
It’s time to discuss it right now, as the primary reason for purchase any of these bulky phones usually consists in one: the size of the screen.
In theory, display AMOLED Nexus 6 6 inches and a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (2k) looks better than 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus IPS display with 1920 x 1080. Just take your time.
At the time, as the picture on the screen Nexus 6 clearer, thanks to the greater density of pixels (493 vs. 401 pixels per inch), and an additional 0.5 inches make the difference is quite noticeable, the iPhone 6 Plus also has something to brag about. Brightness of the image on the iPhone 6 Plus is much better than on the Nexus 6, however, as the clarity of colors and viewing angle.
Of course, these advantages and disadvantages need to be considered in the context of the real state of things, but none vladets Nexus 6, any owner of an iPhone 6 Plus will not be disappointed. They both are among the phones with the best screen ever created, and only Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and LG G3 surpass them, in my opinion.
So, if you dream of the big screen from all possible, then the Nexus 6 has a significant advantage, otherwise, they are both great.
Features: Powerful, but not without defects
The linear comparison of technical Performance Nexus and iPhone 6 6 Plus will be meaningless, given the difference in their ecosystems. And because I am more interested in discussing how they perform their tasks in the work and how they open new opportunities for iOS and Android.
Snapdragon chipset 805 from the company Qualcomm, built in the Nexus 6 is a top-end Android feature today, and when combined with a huge RAM (3GB) and, most importantly, OS Android 5.0 Lollipop, he literally “flies”. Navigation works like clockwork, the same can be said about the eye-catching transition animations in the interface Material Design. A game from Google Play Store not deliver problems, even after a year or two.
At the same time, in perfect exterior there is still some controversy. By default, Lollipop, set in the Nexus 6, including encryption (as opposed to retrofit devices Andriod, where it is available to choose from) and Anandtech found that it affects the boot time.
The extra second or half a second does not deliver inconvenience to anyone but the most demanding users, with obvious advantages in terms of safety, but until Google makes selective encryption, the complaint is not likely to stop.
Meanwhile, iPhone 6 Plus – making power surges against previous generations of the iPhone in more modest proportions – can boast that iOS8 perfectly works in tandem with the latest chipset Apple A8. It is worth noting that the A8 has only dual-core CPU and only 1GB of RAM, but the performance per each core is high and nothing hinders the operation of the device.
However, the problem is, and it is in a number of major defects that Apple unsuccessfully trying to eliminate, despite numerous updates iOS 8. With the device, given to me for a test drive, everything was in order, but there are a lot of complaints about problems with WiFi and Bluetooth.
Android 5.0 Lollipop also not be called ideal, as some of the main applications are still not compatible with the system, and the duration of the battery life is unstable. It is important to stress that both the system and iOS 8 and Lollipop, are brand new, therefore, correction of defects and improvements will appear in the course of the year.
Achievements Phablet – first days 8 iOS and Android 5.0 Lollipop
At the time, as defects are the only drawback, which I was able to encounter while working with the Nexus and iPhone 6 6 Plus, both ecosystems have one common annoying drawback: lack of functionality specific for Phablet.
In short, 8 and iOS, and Android Lollipop are essentially a larger version of the software, which can be found in the more compact phones. Apple made it possible to use landscape mode on the home screen of the iPhone 6, as well as some of the key applications such as Mail, Stocks, but these attempts are quite limited.
Meanwhile, Google and even less did. Except for the additional vertical and horizontal lines of icons on the home screen, the work of Nexus 6 is no different from Lollipop work on the Nexus 5.
Given that many people do not like the fact that Google Nexus line moved into the category of Phablet (manufacture Nexus 5 is gradually reduced), is a true disappointment, and the sooner it is decided about the update, the better.
It is important to emphasize that these complaints do not defile the iOS and Android in general, but when it comes to maintenance is Phablet, both platforms are still in their infancy.
However, I will say that, in general, Lollipop is more suitable for a huge screen. With support for widgets on the home screen, huge display Nexus 6 is much more comfortable to use, and its customizability says that applications are developed with the possibility of changes in the basic elements in terms of user experience that meets the requirements of large screens.
As an example, third-party developers that can completely change the home screen, to hide the extra icons or place them anywhere on the screen. Moreover, the basic controls Android are two sides of the icons on the home screen, making them reachable.
The third party Google also offers a strong support for the keyboard and compact version allows you to type with one hand, convenience, Apple is not yet able to offer.
In turn, Apple introduced gesture recognition to solve the problem situation ‘back’ button in the upper left corner and added the “reach” to open the user interface by double-clicking the home button screen. It seems that the work is done only by half, and iOS is still the operating system that is suitable only for compact screens.
Security
Over the years, Android earned a reputation as a malware that was highlighted in a report released earlier this year and claimed that the share of Android accounted for 97% of all malware. However, no one said that this same report it was mentioned that almost all of them – from unofficial app stores. As it turned out, the official Google Play store can be accused of only 0.1%, and the researchers report that malware destroyed within a few minutes after they are reported.
In this case, it is indisputable that, despite the growing number of attacks, iOS is still more secure. The situation, which has been improved thanks to TouchID – features a fingerprint reader, is now used on all new iPhone and iPad.
How does it work in reality? Of course, things are not so smooth, after the discovery of some minuses TouchID, but the convenience (and attractiveness factor) TouchID was the reason that many people use this scanner for fingerprints, although I did not use this feature.
In its turn, Android Lollipop in the Nexus 6 is support for the unit, based on your current location. This allows you to define “security zone”, so PINs will be turned off when you are at home or in the office, and even when you are connected to the nearest peripheral device such as a Bluetooth fitness bracelet. Lollipop also supports automatic unlocking when a face is detected, however, the company warned that this feature is not as reliable as traditional pin code.
What is the lesson to be learned? When fair use both platforms are fairly reliable, especially with the fact that the Nexus 6 does not support a side load of potentially dangerous applications via external media (which is the advantage of this missing data). Do not forget about common sense.
Battery life – unpredictable Nexus 6 gives primacy iPhone 6 Plus
When Google first announced Lollipop, in June, it was a lot of noise around the Project Volta – endeavor, aims to significantly improve the length of battery life on Android. And Volta already have, and in combination with a huge battery capacity Nexus 6 3220 mAh, it can be expected that the improvement will be radical. Unfortunately, no.
When it comes to the safety of charge, iPhone 6 Plus (with battery capacity of 2915 mAh) comes forward with ease. The good news is that both he and Nexus 6 after working all day, even with heavy use, but while the iPhone battery 6 Plus will be discharged in series, Nexus 6 may behave erratically.
With me, the battery Nexus 6 could operate in 2 days, and discharged by the end of the day, with the same intensity of use. Is this caused by applications and third-party widgets that need to be updated or indicates the beginning of failures Lollipop, remains unclear, but it needs to be corrected. At the moment, Galaxy Note 4 (running Android 4.4 KitKat), which also set the battery capacity of 3220 mAh, superior Nexus 6. It should not have happened.
On the other hand, iPhone 6 Plus firmly maintains its position, and its strongest weapon is phenomenally effective safety charge in standby mode. If you do not turn on the iPhone 6 Plus receptacle on the night, it uses a maximum of 1% charge, at the time, as the Nexus 6 uses 5-10%.
This is the big difference. Battery consumption when using the phone is practically the same, but given the fact that most of the time our phone is in tranquility, iPhone 6 Plus will be beaten out in leaders throughout the day. Therefore, for those who are concerned the duration of the battery, iPhone 6 Plus will be win-win option.
External speakers: walkover Nexus 6
The evolution of smartphones speakers can be easily trace. Long wanton find on the back of the phone, after which they were moved to the bottom edge, and now more and more often they are located on the front of the phone. Manufacturers began to realize that for consumers, they are much more important than they originally expected.
Unfortunately, this aspect of the iPhone 6 Plus is behind a whole generation. Despite the enormous front frame, Apple continues to set one speaker on the bottom edge. Speaking honestly, it’s so loud and clear, as far as he is allowed to its limits, but it does not compare with front dual stereo speakers Nexus 6.
In a broader consideration, the speakers BoomSound, built-in HTC (which served as the beginning for this revolution in the front), you can hear more bass than the Nexus 6, but a smartphone created by Motorola, a little louder. In summary, you will not find other external speakers, which can be compared to these.
Cameras: lifting strap
One of the most intriguing moments is promise Nexus 6, ultimately, raise the level of the series Nexus elite at the expense of a larger sensor 13 megapixels. In contrast, Apple’s decision to stay with the sensor 8 megapixels (for the umpteenth time) has been met with some disappointment.
But then again you should not believe the figures. iPhone 6 Plus and Nexus 6 make excellent photographs, you do not get to allocate someone one. With good lighting makes the Nexus 6 more detailed pictures, thanks to a larger sensor, but the iPhone 6 Plus focuses somewhat faster and renders colors more clearly.
In dark places, they both will amaze you. During my tests, photos candles turned out surprisingly clear without distortion of the most striking elements of the flame. In both cameras equipped with an optical image stabilizer, which plays an important role, but it seemed to me that the Nexus 6 is still a little bit better.
Google and Apple are also used distinctive variant HDR (Google call it “HDR +”), when – instead of combining multiple images taken at different exposures – they just make a lot of photos at the same exposure and select the most successful part of each photo to create the best possible composition. This eliminates blur during a typical HDR, and evidence of better alignment of images.
When it comes to video, here it is inferior. Support for 4K Nexus 6 implies that the standard video is better quality, however, that the strange sounds are recorded monaural. Nexus 6 is not able to compete with the incredible lapse mode Apple, which produces 240 frames per second in HD 720p, and has built-in time-lapse movies. Both cameras work perfectly, but with the video, I will vote Apple.
Cost – Google will give you more fun for your money
Many people complain about the price of a new Nexus 6 ($ 649), considering that the Nexus and Nexus 4 and 5 cost half the price of comparable phones with them. However, even with the increased costs, the cost of Nexus 6 remains competitive, especially if you do not sign the contract:
• Nexus 6: 32GB – $ 649; 64GB – $ 699
• Galaxy Note 4: 16GB – $ 599, 32GB – $ 699
• iPhone 6 Plus: 16GB – 749 dollars, 64GB – 849 dollars, 128GB – 949 dollars
Nexus 6 is also cheaper Galaxy Note 4, its main competitor on the android market. Because those who choose only from a financial point of view, should choose Nexus 6, provided that the expandable memory and a removable battery Note 4 are not key factors.
It is a proposal – iPhone 6 Plus. Even for Apple, this is a very expensive phone, and a version with 128GB memory to cost you more than a simple MacBook Air with memory 128GB.
tempting product in this series is the phone memory 64GB (849 dollars) and if you are willing to spend money, your main reasons for choosing a more compact iPhone 6 will be a huge screen and the duration of battery life.
Final words
To some extent, the figure attributed Nexus and iPhone 6 6 Plus is deceptive. One gets the impression that their creation was to come a long way in a few generations, but in fact, they are the first attempt to create Google and Apple Phablet.
Lack of experience is noticeable in several ways. They both need to finish, which will allow better to keep the device and iPhone 6 Plus is essential to pay attention to ergonomics.
