One of the most interesting things that evolved from the digital revolution, began hacking contests with prizes where friendly hackers are invited to try to win hardware and software in a closed environment. The latest mobile edition of the Pwn2Own competition was organized by the security company Trend Micro, offering cash prizes to anyone who can obtain information about the user to install unauthorized applications, or to fully unlock some of the greatest mass phones: Nexus 6P, the Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6s, reports ITbukva.com.
Keen Tencent Security Lab Team coped with the challenge.
Using a few bugs in Android, which was present even in Nexus 6P, equipped with the latest monthly security updates, the team was able to install on the phone fake application to access user data, but does not fully unlock the device. Of the three successful attacks in the different categories, “sniper”, “power” and “stealth”, the team earned $ 102 500 in total prize money. Tencent Keen also managed to keep third-party app on the iPhone 6S after a reboot, which is considered as a partial success. There is no mention of a successful attack on the Galaxy S7 in the report after the events of Trend Micro. In General, the Tencent team was Keen to score enough points to earn a prize worth 215,000 dollars. According to the rules of Mobile Pwn2Own vulnerability in Nexus 6P and/or Android that allowed the attack, it will open Google for patches.
