Hacking Nexus 6P – a five minute job – iks-media

the cybersecurity conference PacSec in Tokyo tournament “white hackers” Mobile Pwn2Own. The participants compete in hacking mobile devices.

“Victims” this time selected Nexus 6P, Apple iPhone 6S and Samsung Galaxy S7. The prize Fund of the tournament amounts to 365 thousand dollars and provided by the Zero Day Initiative Trend Micro.

According to the rules of the competition each team has three attempts at five-minute hacking of a device, according to TCI. However, speaking on the team Keen Team from China was one attempt. In just five minutes, the participants were broken into one of the flagships of the line Android smartphones, developed jointly with Google and produced by Huawei – Nexus-6P. It is particularly noteworthy and disturbing at the same time that they demonstrated the technique of attack generally does not require any active action by the user. The results of the tournament will be announced later, but experts watching its progress, I believe that the Keen Team has good chances to become a winner in this category of the competition. In this case, Chinese researchers will get a prize in 100 thousand dollars.
